SELATPANJANG (ISL News) - Pelindo Multi Terminal (SPMT) Tanjung Balai Karimun Branch, as a Subholding of PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) in the field of multipurpose terminal operational services, has completed the renovation of the Tanjung Harapan Passenger Terminal at Selatpanjang Port, Meranti Islands. This terminal now comes with a new look and modern facilities to improve the comfort of domestic and international passengers.
The inauguration of the Tanjung Harapan Passenger Terminal took place on Tuesday (10/29/2024) and was carried out by the Acting Governor of Riau Rahman Hadi. This event was also attended by the Acting Regent of the Meranti Islands Roni Rahmad, Chairman of the Meranti Islands DPRD Khalid Ali, KSOP Selatpanjang Derita Adi Prasetyo, and other officials from the Meranti Islands Regency Government.
In his remarks, Acting Governor of Riau Rahman Hadi underlined the strategic role of Selatpanjang Port as a showcase and gateway to the Meranti Islands. "With this renovation, it is hoped that the Tanjung Harapan Terminal of Selatpanjang Port can support increased accessibility and economic activity in the Meranti Islands Regency," he said.
Pelindo Multi Terminal Tanjung Balai Karimun Branch Manager, Yusrizal, explained that this renovation is a manifestation of the company's commitment to port service users. "This passenger terminal now has a waiting room with a significantly increased capacity, from the domestic waiting room which previously had a capacity of 160 people to 250 people, and the international waiting room from 60 people to 180 people," explained Yusrizal.
The Tanjung Harapan Passenger Terminal is also equipped with additional facilities, such as a renovated waiting room for domestic and international, as well as the construction of a trestle and bridge connecting to the international pontoon. "This infrastructure improvement is expected to become a center of transportation activities for the community and tourists visiting the Meranti Islands," he added.
Farid Chairmawan, VP of Corporate Communications & Protocol of PT Pelindo Multi Terminal, added that in the future, it is hoped that the Tanjung Harapan Passenger Terminal will be able to contribute positively to the development of the economy and tourism in Riau, while providing a better experience for passengers through increasingly complete and modern facilities.
Currently, PT Pelindo Multi Terminal has managed a total of 36 ports in Indonesia, some of which are managed by subsidiaries PT Pelabuhan Tanjung Priok and PT Indonesia Kendaraan Terminal Tbk, as well as PT Terminal Curah Utama. SPMT's main focus is on the management of non-container terminals, including liquid bulk terminals, dry bulk terminals, multipurpose terminals, vehicle terminals, and passengers, in accordance with the company's mission as a multipurpose terminal operator that creates a value-added ecosystem.
