JAKARTA (ISL News)
 – In collaboration with various parties, PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) or Pelindo launched the Selected Chapters Book Series on Port Development in Indonesia during the Pelindo Stakeholder Gathering & Book Launching at the Royale Jakarta Golf Club, Saturday, October 12, 2024. This book is the first book in Indonesia to examine port management from 3 aspects, including aspects of port development policy, aspects of sustainable port management, and technical aspects of port development.

This book is a collaboration between Pelindo in collaboration with the Center for Transportation and Logistics Studies (Pustral) of Gadjah Mada University (UGM). This book consists of three editions, namely Book 1: Perspectives on Port Development Policy in Indonesia, Book 2: Sustainable Port Management, and Book 3: Technical Aspects in Port Development.

Pelindo's Director of Human Resources (HR) and General Affairs, Ihsanuddin Usman, said that the presence of this book is the result of the hard work of 58 authors from institutions in Indonesia and abroad, reviewed by independent reviewers from various partners and associations, and edited by editors of 3 professors, namely Prof. Dr-tech. Ir. Danang Parikesit, MSc.(Eng), IPU, APEC.Eng., Prof. Raja Oloan Saut Gurning, ST, M.Sc., Ph.D, and Prof. Sari Wahyuni, SIP, M.Sc., Ph.D.

"Together with academics, we discussed how port development should not stop at Pelindo and strategic partners, but should continuously encourage discussions, especially involving the younger generation, so that in the future port development will become a strong seven-point teacher for Indonesia as an archipelagic country," said Ihsanuddin when giving the opening speech for the launch of the Kapita Selekta Book.

In order to realize an integrated maritime ecosystem, the Port cannot act alone, but must synergize with all business actors and regulators in the maritime ecosystem.

This is the background for Pelindo and Pustral UGM to collaborate by involving stakeholders, regulators, customers, and academics in the port, maritime and logistics sectors, to conduct knowledge sharing related to best practices in port management and the preparation of the book.

In this edition of Book 1, it discusses comprehensively about policy, policy perspectives covering economic, legal, regulatory aspects and understanding the port and logistics performance measurement index. Then, in the edition of Book 2, it examines in depth several issues related to sustainable port management. Business sustainability through strategic alliances at port terminals in Indonesia, a study of forecasting port usage needs, and a comparative study of the world's best ports, especially in terms of port sustainability.

Meanwhile, the technical aspects in Book 3 provide an overview of the challenges of modernizing port terminal planning and design, risk mitigation strategies in implementing port construction, as well as technological disruption and digital transformation in port operations.

"We expect this book to be a trigger for decision makers at the government and corporate levels as well as private partners to look again, sit back and see how to implement best practices. There are aspects of public service that are delivered, but there are also some that must be maintained. It can be seen that our industry will continue to grow, investment will increase and how public supervision of the community can be maintained," said Danang Parikesit, Professor of Engineering Economics & Transportation Policy, UGM.
