SURABAYA (ISL News) - PT Pelindo Marine Service (Pelindo Marine) deployed two tugboats, KT. Jayanegara 306 and KT. Jayanegara 308, in a simulation of handling ship fires and emergency evacuations in the waters of Tanjung Perak Port, Surabaya, Tuesday (3/11/2026).

The activity, organized by the Tanjung Perak Main Harbormaster and Port Authority Office (KSOP), aims to test the readiness of personnel, fleets, and inter-agency coordination ahead of the 2026 Christmas and 2027 New Year (Nataru) transportation period.

The simulation involved several agencies, including Basarnas (National Search and Rescue Agency), the Directorate of Water and Air Police (Polairud), the Indonesian Navy, PT Dharma Lautan Utama (DLU), and various other maritime stakeholders. The simulation involved the DLU-owned KMP Kirana VII, which serves the round-trip route from Tanjung Perak, Surabaya, to Lembar, Lombok, as the object of the emergency response training. A ship fire scenario was demonstrated, with passengers practicing emergency evacuation procedures.

Andy Sutomo Panjaitan, Head of the Tanjung Perak Lollan Main Port Authority (KSOP), stated that the exercise served as a momentum to strengthen coordination and rapid response across agencies. "The fire drill is a crucial opportunity to improve communication and rapid response among all parties, as shipping safety and a safety culture are our shared pride," he said.

The captain of the Jayanegara 308 tugboat, Capt. Ade Aulia Rahman, explained that the two vessels had different tasks in the simulation scenario. The Jayanegara 306 tugboat played a role in extinguishing the fire using the Fire Fighting System (FiFi) facility, while the Jayanegara 308 tugboat was tasked with guarding and holding the KMP Kirana VII's position to maintain stability during the emergency response and evacuation process. "Through this division of tasks, the emergency response process can be carried out more effectively, thus supporting the safety of personnel, passengers, and all parties involved in the operation," he explained.

PT Pelindo Marine Service's Commercial, Operations, and Engineering Director, Elvin Syah Putra, added that ahead of the Christmas and New Year (Nataru) transportation period, Pelindo Marine continues to ensure the readiness of its fleet, personnel, and supporting equipment to support shipping safety and smooth maritime transportation services. "Not only in Tanjung Perak, we are also strengthening readiness in 56 other Pelindo Marine operational areas spread throughout Indonesia, so that all fleets and personnel are ready to provide a fast response and safe and reliable services during the Nataru period," he said.

By participating in this simulation, Pelindo Marine affirmed its commitment to supporting maritime emergency preparedness through fleet reliability, personnel competence, and synergy with various stakeholders. These efforts are part of the company's support for ensuring safe and smooth maritime transportation, particularly during the Christmas and New Year (Nataru) holiday season.
