SURABAYA (ISL News) - PT Terminal Petikemas Surabaya (TPS) held a Strong Wind Safety Drill at the TPS International Pier on Tuesday (October 27). This activity is part of the company's efforts to improve employee preparedness for potential operational risks caused by extreme weather, particularly strong winds that commonly occur during the rainy season. The drill was designed to test the effectiveness of coordination, communication, and response of all personnel in facing various emergency scenarios in the dock area.

During the drill, the TPS simulated a number of potential conditions that could occur during operations, including the suspension of loading and unloading activities due to wind speeds exceeding the crane's safe operational limits, containers swaying due to gusts of wind, workers exposed to strong winds in the dock area, materials or equipment being blown by the wind, and severe weather conditions accompanied by heavy rain and reduced visibility. The drill also tested the effectiveness of emergency communication lines in the event of disruption to primary communication facilities.

This activity involved cross-functional operational elements, from equipment operators and dock service personnel to stevedoring personnel (TKBM), to operational management and HSSE. Each scenario was designed to ensure all personnel understood their roles, responsibilities, and the escalation process required in the event of an emergency due to extreme weather.

TPS Senior Manager of Operations Management, Didik Kurniawan, emphasized that being prepared for strong winds is a crucial aspect in maintaining worker safety and ensuring smooth terminal operations, especially as the rainy season approaches.

"As the rainy season approaches, all workers must be even more focused and vigilant about the potential for strong winds in the operational area. Through this drill, we want to ensure that every worker understands the potential risks, knows the steps to take, and is able to respond quickly and appropriately according to established procedures. Safety remains a top priority in every TPS operational activity," said Didik.

According to Didik, the regular training is part of the company's safety culture to ensure all TPS personnel are always prepared for various emergencies. Personnel readiness and adherence to safety procedures are key to minimizing the risk of workplace accidents and operational disruptions due to weather factors.

Through the implementation of this Strong Wind Safety Drill, TPS hopes to continue to strengthen the competence and safety awareness of workers so that terminal operations continue to run safely, reliably, and sustainably, while providing the best service to service users.
