MEMPAWAH KALBAR (ISL News) – Kijing Terminal in Mempawah Regency, West Kalimantan, continues to strengthen its role as a strategic logistics hub that supports economic, trade, and industrial growth in the western region of Kalimantan Island.

Operated by PT Pelabuhan Tanjung Priok (PTP Nonpetikemas), the Kijing Terminal handles a variety of cargo types, including dry bulk, liquid bulk, general cargo, bag cargo, and containers, to support the smooth flow of national and international supply chains. Friday (October 9, 2026).

As of September 2026, Kijing Terminal recorded continued operational growth, with dry bulk throughput reaching 2.37 million tons, liquid bulk reaching 126,000 tons, and general cargo and bag cargo reaching 340,000 tons/m³. This growth was also supported by service diversification, including container cargo handling, which began operating in June 2026.

In terms of infrastructure, the Kijing Terminal is designed to serve large vessels up to 100,000 DWT with a simultaneous berthing capacity of more than 15 vessels. Operational reliability is also continuously improved through the optimization of supporting facilities, including harbor mobile cranes, hoppers, grabs, and buckets, as well as strengthening the port's electrical network.

In addition to serving general freight flows, the Kijing Terminal plays a crucial role in supporting the national industrial ecosystem and downstream processing, particularly through logistics services for the MIND ID Group. One such service is supporting the development of an integrated mineral processing industry in Mempawah, which integrates bauxite processing into alumina and aluminum.

As of September 2026, the Kijing Terminal had handled approximately 2.54 million tons of cargo belonging to the MIND ID Group, consisting of 2.41 million tons of dry bulk and 103,970 tons of liquid bulk. This activity is one of the main pillars of the Kijing Terminal's performance, with MIND ID Group contributing approximately 72% of the Kijing Terminal's total revenue as of August 2026.

Going forward, the role of the Kijing Terminal in supporting the downstream ecosystem is projected to become increasingly strategic along with the development of the Smelter Grade Alumina Refinery (SGAR) Phase 2 by MIND ID in Mempawah, which is targeted to be operational in 2028. SGAR Phase 2 has a production capacity of 1 million tons of alumina per year. Together with SGAR Phase 1, the alumina production capacity in Mempawah will eventually reach around 2 million tons per year.

This integrated development also strengthens the domestic aluminum industry supply chain, from bauxite to alumina to aluminum. This situation also strengthens the prospects of the Kijing Terminal as a vital part of the growing logistics and industrial ecosystem in Mempawah and West Kalimantan.

"The Kijing Terminal has shown excellent development and is now PTP's largest contributor after the Tanjung Priok Branch. This demonstrates Kijing's strategic prospects for continued growth," said PTP President Director Indra Hidayat Sani.

According to Indra, PTP will continue to optimize the potential of Kijing Terminal by strengthening logistics services and capacity, especially in supporting the needs of industrial development and downstreaming with the MIND ID Group.

To ensure the smooth flow of goods to and from Kijing Terminal, PTP continues to promote strengthening land logistics connectivity. Pelindo has held discussions with the local government to follow up on development prospects and the effectiveness of supporting infrastructure development in Mempawah Regency.

"Connectivity is a crucial factor in the development of the Kijing Terminal. Therefore, we continue to coordinate with the government to encourage improvements to road infrastructure that support the smooth movement of logistics vehicles to and from the terminal," said Indra.

In line with the need for increased connectivity, Pelindo has also initiated the construction of a new road to support freight vehicle access to the Kijing Terminal area. Meanwhile, PTP continues to advocate for the need for improved connectivity infrastructure to the central government to optimize the smooth flow of the logistics chain in the region.

In addition to connectivity, PTP pays attention to occupational safety and health (K3) aspects, including in facing operational challenges due to weather conditions and the haze phenomenon that occurs in a number of areas in West Kalimantan.

"PTP is fully committed to ensuring the safety and health of its workers in the field. We have prepared protective equipment, including masks, and optimized lighting in operational areas to ensure safe operations and safe working conditions for workers," said Indra.

Beyond the mining and mineral processing sector, Kijing Terminal also has the opportunity to continue developing logistics services for various industrial sectors in West Kalimantan, including the Crude Palm Oil (CPO) derivative industry and other industrial areas that continue to grow.

With this potential, PTP is committed to continuously increasing the capacity and quality of Kijing Terminal services to maintain supply chain continuity, strengthen inter-island and international connectivity, and support economic growth in the West Kalimantan region.

Through facility development, service diversification, connectivity strengthening, and a commitment to operational safety and reliability, PTP continues to optimize Kijing Terminal as a strategic logistics hub and a vital part of the industrial ecosystem and driver of economic growth in West Kalimantan.
