PALEMBANG (ISL News) -
Pelindo Regional 2 Palembang continues to strengthen its partnership with the educational sector through a visit by students majoring in Development Economics at the Faculty of Economics, Sriwijaya University (Unsri), to gain a closer look at the strategic role of ports in supporting economic growth and regional development. This activity provides an opportunity for students to gain a firsthand understanding of the port industry and understand the interrelationships between port activities, trade, and the regional economy.

Ports play a crucial role as maritime transportation hubs connecting various regions and forming part of the supply chain. In South Sumatra, Palembang's Boom Baru Port serves as a crucial hub supporting commodity movement and trade activities. Ports contribute to the distribution of goods, interregional connectivity, and the smooth flow of economic activity involving various business sectors.

Pelindo Regional 2 Palembang General Manager Darmawi stated that the student visit served as a way to introduce the port industry to the younger generation, particularly in understanding the maritime sector's contribution to the economy. "Through this activity, we want to provide students with an overview of how ports operate and their role in supporting economic activity. We hope students can see firsthand the link between the port sector and trade, logistics distribution, and regional economic growth," Darmawi said.

For Development Economics students, understanding port activities can provide an additional perspective in studying economic development, particularly regarding infrastructure, distribution efficiency, regional connectivity, and regional competitiveness. Through direct exposure to port operations, students are expected to understand how the existence of transportation and logistics infrastructure is linked to the smooth flow of goods and the development of community economic activities.

Darmawi added that collaboration between education and industry needs to be continuously strengthened to broaden the younger generation's horizons regarding workplace practices. "We hope this visit will be a beneficial learning experience for students, while also enhancing their understanding of the strategic role of ports in supporting economic development. Pelindo is open to educational activities that can strengthen relationships with universities and provide added value to developing the insights of the younger generation," he added.

Through this educational activity, Pelindo Regional 2 Palembang is committed to continuously supporting the introduction of the port industry to academics. The synergy between universities and the business world is expected to create a more applicable learning process and encourage the emergence of a younger generation with broad insights into Indonesia's economic development, logistics, and maritime affairs.
