PALEMBANG (ISL News) - In an effort to increase preparedness and strengthen cross-agency coordination in dealing with the potential spread of infectious diseases in the port area, Pelindo Regional 2 Palembang collaborated with the Palembang Class I Health Quarantine Center to hold an Extraordinary Event Control Drill (KLB) for Infectious Diseases at Boom Baru Port, Palembang.
The event began with a presentation and technical briefing in the Musi Meeting Room. Participants received an explanation of early detection mechanisms, reporting procedures, response steps, and inter-agency coordination in the event of an extraordinary outbreak of infectious diseases within the port environment.
Pelindo Regional 2 Palembang General Manager Darmawi stated that preparedness for potential outbreaks of infectious diseases requires strong synergy and coordination between port management and all relevant agencies. He stated that this drill serves as a means to assess personnel readiness, understand handling procedures, and improve coordination effectiveness in responding to health emergencies.
Following the presentation session, the activity continued with a field simulation at the Non-Container Pier at Boom Baru Port in Palembang. In the simulation, participants practiced a scenario involving the detection of a passenger or crew member exhibiting symptoms of an infectious disease. The simulation covered the stages of reporting and initial identification, examination by health workers, temporary isolation measures, evacuation, and further coordination with the relevant health authorities.
The drill involved various cross-agency elements, including government agencies, health officials, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri), hospitals, port associations, shipping companies, and service users. The involvement of these various parties is crucial in building a shared understanding of their respective roles, responsibilities, and coordination mechanisms in responding to health emergencies.
This collaboration between Pelindo Regional 2 Palembang and the Palembang Class I Health Quarantine Center is a concrete step in strengthening the integrated preparedness and response system against the potential spread of infectious diseases in the port area.
Through this activity, Pelindo Regional 2 Palembang continues to be committed to supporting the creation of a safe, healthy, and conducive port environment, while ensuring that port service and sea transportation activities can run while paying attention to the safety, security, and health aspects of all service users.
