PALEMBANG (ISL News) – PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) or Pelindo Group Regional 2 Palembang carried out Management Walkthrough (MWT) activities as a form of concern for safety and smooth operations while ensuring that health aspects are met for service users amidst the haze conditions that have enveloped the Palembang area and its surroundings.
The activity began with the distribution of masks to passengers on the Express Bahari ship, both in the passenger waiting area and on board. The distribution of masks demonstrates Pelindo Group Regional 2 Palembang's commitment to the health and well-being of passengers, particularly those traveling through the Boom Baru Port Passenger Terminal in Palembang.
Through this activity, Pelindo Group Regional 2 Palembang encourages passengers to always maintain their health and wear masks as a measure to protect themselves from exposure to dust and smoke particles amidst less than conducive air quality conditions.
Following the mask distribution, Pelindo Group Regional 2 Palembang management continued the MWT (Maturation Monitoring) activity using a tugboat to directly inspect operational activities in the Musi River. This inspection focused on pilotage and towing services, particularly in the face of haze conditions, which require increased attention and vigilance in operational activities.
During these activities, safety was a primary concern, particularly regarding visibility conditions along the Musi River shipping lanes. This direct monitoring was part of management's efforts to assess conditions on the ground, monitor ship service delivery, and strengthen the implementation of a safety culture in all port activities.
In line with this, Pelindo emphasizes the importance of implementing Stop Working Authority (SWA), which is the authority and responsibility of every worker to temporarily stop work if an unsafe condition is found that has the potential to endanger the safety of workers, service users, or the environment. In conditions of haze that can affect visibility, every worker is expected to be able to recognize potential hazards, immediately report unsafe conditions to the relevant parties, and ensure risk control measures are taken before work is continued. This principle emphasizes that no job is more important than safety, so every operational activity must be carried out by paying attention to actual conditions in the field and applicable safety procedures.
General Manager of Pelindo Group Regional 2 Palembang, Darmawi, said that the MWT activity is part of the management's commitment to ensuring that concern for service users goes hand in hand with operational supervision and strengthening of safety culture.
"Through this activity, we want to demonstrate our concern for Express Bahari passengers while also directly monitoring the pilotage and towing services on the Musi River. In haze conditions, vigilance and the implementation of safety procedures are essential. We also continue to encourage all workers to exercise Stop Working Authority if they encounter unsafe conditions, as safety is always our top priority," said Darmawi.
