BANYUWANGI (ISL News) - Traffic jams have returned to the main road leading to Ketapang-Gilimanuk Port in Banyuwangi. The congestion has also impacted the movement of logistics vehicles and large vehicles heading to the port area, including Tanjung Wangi Port.

In an effort to help reduce traffic congestion, Pelindo Tanjung Wangi has incidentally reopened a number of parking pockets and buffer areas to temporarily accommodate trucks heading to the port.

This facility will be available for both ticketed and unticketed vehicles heading to Tanjung Wangi Port. This measure is expected to reduce queues of vehicles on main roads while maintaining smooth traffic flow around the port area.

Pelindo Tanjung Wangi General Manager, Eko Budyasmoro, said the opening of the buffer area was an incidental step by Pelindo as well as a directive from the Ministry of Transportation to assist local governments and related stakeholders in handling traffic congestion.

"We are reopening our parking pockets and buffer areas as part of a collaborative effort to help ease traffic congestion at the port access points. Vehicles heading to the port can be directed to wait temporarily in designated areas so they don't all pile up on the road," said Eko.

Currently, Pelindo Tanjung Wangi has two facilities that can be used as parking pockets and buffer areas. First, the RTK, with an area of approximately 7,000 square meters, can accommodate up to 95 class V trucks. Furthermore, there is a 24,898 square meter buffer area with a capacity of up to 313 class V–VII trucks.

"The use of this area is incidental and we will adjust it to the traffic conditions on the ground. We hope this buffer area will provide space for vehicles to wait, thereby minimizing congestion on the main road," Eko added.

In addition to providing vehicle storage facilities, Pelindo Tanjung Wangi also continues to coordinate with shipping companies to increase the speed of ship operational times while in the port area.

Pelindo also asked shipping agents to evaluate the ship ticket sales and distribution system, including ensuring the accuracy of departure schedules and the readiness of the ship fleet to provide services to service users.
