BANTEN (ISL News) - National Transportation Day 2026 is a momentum to reinforce the importance of transportation connectivity in supporting the smooth distribution of goods and supply chains. Amidst growing logistics needs, ports play a crucial role in connecting trade, industry, and distribution activities between regions.
As part of the national transportation system, Pelindo Regional 2 Banten continues to fulfill its role in providing port services in the Banten region. One of these services is through Ciwandan Port, which handles ship handling and the loading and unloading of various commodities to support the logistics needs of its users.
This role is evident in the diverse commodities handled at Ciwandan Port, ranging from food and general cargo to special-sized cargo. This diversity of cargo reflects Ciwandan Port's characteristics as a multipurpose port serving the needs of service users from various industrial sectors.
This activity is also reflected in the increase in ship traffic served by Ciwandan Port throughout the first semester of 2026. Based on the business performance report of Pelindo Regional 2 Banten, ship volume was recorded at 22,467,366 Gross Tonnage (GT), an increase of 15.21 percent compared to the same period in 2025 of 19,500,514 GT.
In addition to ship services, support for logistics activities is also evident in the loading and unloading of food commodities. In 2025, Ciwandan Port recorded 935,568 MT of imported wheat, which is part of the raw material supply for the food processing industry.
Logistics activities continued in 2026, including through the service of the MV. Super Tomiyasu with a cargo of 31,904 MT of wheat from Ukraine in July. Entering August, Ciwandan Port served the MV Indonesia Express with a cargo of 35,730 MT of soybean meal (SBM), as well as handling general cargo in the form of Wind Mill Tower, which from January to August 2026 reached a volume of 269,006 MT. This diverse cargo demonstrates the role of Ciwandan Port in serving the logistics needs of service users with different commodity characteristics.
Occupational Health and Safety (K3) is an integral part of each of these activities. Pelindo Regional 2 Banten implements safety standards and supervision in operational areas to ensure the safe operation of loading and unloading activities and the movement of goods.
Acting General Manager of Pelindo Regional 2 Banten, Achmad Yoga Suryadarma, stated that increased activity at Ciwandan Port needs to be balanced with service readiness and the implementation of safety aspects in every operational activity.
"We continue to ensure that safety is a priority in every operational activity at Ciwandan Port. We implement OHS standards and conduct supervision in our work areas to create a safe working environment for both workers and other parties involved in port activities," he said.
Going forward, Pelindo Regional 2 Banten will continue to maintain the reliability of Ciwandan Port in serving ship and cargo movements. This step is part of its efforts to support the supply chain and industrial activity in Banten.
"The momentum of National Transportation Day 2026 serves as a reminder for us to continue providing the best service with wholehearted dedication, as part of the spirit of transformation and strengthening the role of state-owned enterprises under Danantara. We hope that Ciwandan Port can continue to benefit the community and the business world and help maintain the smooth flow of logistics activities in Banten," Yoga concluded.
