TANJUNG PRIOK (ISL News, September 6, 2026) — The Tanjung Priok Sea and Coast Guard Base (PLP) has increased operational readiness to support shipping safety and security following the ongoing eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau in the Sunda Strait waters.
Based on the Special Report of the Geological Agency, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Number 1512.Lap/GL.03/BGL/2026 dated September 5, 2026, concerning the Continuous Eruption Phenomenon of Anak Krakatau Volcano, the activity of Anak Krakatau Volcano is still at Level III (Alert). The Geological Agency recorded a continuous eruption on September 5, 2026, and the development of volcanic activity continues to be monitored intensively.
As a follow-up to these developments and to maintain maritime safety vigilance, the Tanjung Priok PLP Base has increased the readiness of patrol elements and personnel to anticipate potential impacts on maritime safety.
THREE KPLP PATROL SHIPS ON ALERT
The Tanjung Priok PLP Base has put three KPLP patrol vessels on standby, namely:
- KN. Trisula-P.111
- KN. Damaru-P.214
- KN. Jembio-P.215
The three vessels are prepared to support patrol activities, surveillance, monitoring of water conditions, and the implementation of shipping safety and security tasks according to developments in the situation and operational needs in the field.
Head of the Tanjung Priok PLP Base, Fourmansyah, SH, MM, MH, emphasized that the readiness of ships and personnel is a preventive measure to ensure that the KPLP can respond to developments in the situation quickly and in a coordinated manner.
"The Tanjung Priok PLP base has put three KPLP patrol vessels on standby: KN. Trisula-P.111, KN. Damaru-P.214, and KN. Jembio-P.215. All of these vessels are ready to carry out patrols, monitoring, and maritime safety tasks according to the situation and operational needs in the field," said Fourmansyah.
STRENGTHEN COORDINATION AND MONITORING
Fourmansyah said that the Tanjung Priok PLP Base continues to coordinate with the Merak KSOP, Panjang KSOP, Panjang KSOP, Bakauheni KSOP, Merak VTS, Panjang VTS, the Geological Agency/ESDM, and other related agencies in order to obtain the latest information and ensure that preparedness measures are implemented in an integrated manner.
"We urge all captains, ship operators, and shipping service users to increase their vigilance, follow official information from authorized agencies, and always prioritize safety while sailing," he stressed.
The Tanjung Priok PLP Base also appealed to all conditions or potential dangers that could disrupt shipping safety to be immediately reported through the Vessel Traffic Service (VTS), Coastal Radio Station, the nearest Harbor Master, or related agencies.
KPLP will continue to monitor and increase preparedness according to developments in the situation as part of the Ministry of Transportation's commitment to ensuring safety, security, and smooth shipping.
