MAUMERE (ISL News) — Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka inspected Laurens Say Port in Maumere, Sikka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, on Thursday (August 20, 2026). The inspection was conducted to directly assess the condition of port facilities following the earthquake that rocked the NTT region on Saturday (August 15, 2026).
PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero), or Pelindo, ensures that Maumere Port operations will continue, particularly to support connectivity and logistics distribution. Angga Adi Prebawa, General Manager of Pelindo's Maumere Branch, stated that port activities continue to be carried out while adapting to facility conditions and prioritizing safety.
"Maumere Port operations remain ongoing. We continue to monitor the condition of the facilities and ensure that port services continue to prioritize the safety of both users and all field personnel," said Angga.
The continuity of operations is evident in the continued operation of ship services and loading and unloading activities after the earthquake. On August 19, 2026, Pelindo Maumere served the KM Tidar , which docked at 23:51 WITA (Central Indonesian Time), with 444 passengers disembarking and 402 passengers boarding. On the same day, loading and unloading activities were also carried out on the general cargo ships KM NTT Sejahtera and KM Kencana , carrying cement commodities. The port also served the KM Maloli , a pioneer ship, and the Kasturi police ship , which brought aid to the people of Sikka Regency. Meanwhile, container services continued to operate to support the smooth flow of logistics in the Flores region.
Maumere Port plays a strategic role in maintaining community connectivity and logistics distribution in the Flores region. While handling earthquake-affected facilities, Pelindo continues to monitor and coordinate with relevant stakeholders to ensure safe and measured operations.
