JAKARTA TANJUNG PRIOK (ISL News) - PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) or Pelindo conducted a soft launch and operational trial of Terminal 2 Container at Tanjung Priok Port, Jakarta, Saturday (1/8/2026). The operation of the terminal is a strategic step by Pelindo in increasing the productivity of integrated container services at Tanjung Priok Port, as a contribution to efforts to improve national logistics efficiency.
This important milestone was also marked by the first berthing test of the container ship MV Meratus Konawe at Terminal 2 Petikemas. This activity demonstrated the readiness of facilities, equipment, and services to support safe, reliable, and efficient container loading and unloading activities.
On this occasion, Pelindo also designated "Terminal 2 Petikemas" as the terminal's official identity. This event also included the distribution of donations to orphans as a manifestation of the company's social responsibility.
The event was attended by the Tanjung Priok Main Port Authority (KSOP), government agencies, port and logistics associations, shipping companies, cargo owners, container depot owners, customers, Pelindo Directors, Pelindo Group management, and business partners.
Pelindo President Director, Achmad Muchtasyar, said the operation of Terminal 2 Container is part of Pelindo's ongoing transformation under Danantara's strategic direction, in providing increasingly efficient and competitive port services.
"The operation of Container Terminal 2 is a crucial step in strengthening the capacity and productivity of container services at Tanjung Priok Port. We aim to provide increasingly productive and integrated services through the monetization of idle assets, thereby supporting the smooth operation of the national supply chain and enhancing Indonesia's logistics competitiveness," said Achmad.
He added that the terminal's future development is also aimed at supporting national trade growth through digitalization, equipment modernization, and improved safety and service standards.
"Going forward, we will continue to develop this terminal into a terminal that is capable of providing faster, more reliable services and adding value to both service users and the national economy," Achmad continued.
Currently, Terminal 2 Container has a pier with a total length of 517.5 meters x 20.8 meters, of which 200 meters are ready for operation, with a design depth of -12 meters LWS and is capable of serving vessels up to 30,000 DWT. This terminal is also equipped with a stacking area (container yard) with an area of approximately 98,700 square meters with a capacity of up to 8,425 TEUs.
Terminal services are supported by a number of equipment including 1 Quay Container Crane (QCC), 4 Rubber Tyred Gantry Crane (RTGC), 1 Reach Stacker, 5 Head Trucks and chassis, and supported by 70 personnel.
In the next stage, the terminal capacity will be further strengthened by adding 2 QCC units targeted to be operational in the fourth quarter of 2026.
The Head of Tanjung Priok Main Port Authority (KSOP Utama), Capt. Heru Susanto, expressed his appreciation for the operation of Container Terminal 2, which he believes will strengthen the quality of port services at Indonesia's largest port.
To ensure optimal and sustainable operations at Terminal 2 Container Terminal, its operations will continue to adhere to applicable regulations. In line with this, Pelindo is expected to continue to improve governance and comply with all administrative requirements in accordance with Minister of Transportation Regulation No. PM 50 of 2021 concerning Seaport Management.
"We support Pelindo's efforts to increase the capacity and productivity of port services. Synergy between regulators, operators, and all stakeholders is key to achieving increasingly efficient, safe port services that support the smooth flow of national logistics," said Heru.
On the same occasion, Pelindo Commercial Director, Farid Padang explained that the operation of Terminal 2 Container is one part of the development of the Pelindo Indonesia Network Pendulum (PINP) concept, namely the integration of container service networks through the formation of up to 20 new shipping corridors that will be developed in stages together with shipping companies, cargo owners, regulators, local governments, and container depot owners.
"The establishment of these corridors will strengthen the hub-and-spoke port scheme, create cargo balancing, improve port capacity utilization, and contribute to reducing national logistics costs. It is hoped that seven corridors will be established initially by the fourth semester of 2026," Farid explained.
