SURABAYA (ISL News) – PT Terminal Petikemas Surabaya (TPS) continues to strengthen the quality of its human resources by hosting a Coaching & Mentoring Workshop for TPS employees in 2026. Held on June 24–25, 2026, at the Toba Meeting Room (2nd Floor, Customer Service Building, TPS), the event was attended by structural staff ranging from Assistant Manager to Manager levels across various TPS work units.

Facilitated by Hearty Service Consulting, this workshop reflects the company's commitment to building leadership capabilities that meet modern business demands while supporting its ongoing transformation agenda.

Coaching and mentoring are complementary approaches to human resource development. Coaching focuses on unlocking potential, fostering critical thinking, and helping individuals discover solutions independently through structured questioning. Meanwhile, mentoring emphasizes the sharing of experiences, insights, and lessons learned from more experienced individuals to accelerate competency and career development.

Through this workshop, TPS aims to cultivate leaders who are not only capable of managing tasks and achieving operational targets but also act as learning facilitators, talent developers, and role models for their teams.

The program is designed to drive tangible changes in leadership behavior within the workplace. Prior to the training, participants typically approached leadership through instruction, supervision, and direct problem-solving. Post-training, they are expected to establish more effective communication with team members, utilize coaching techniques to help subordinates find solutions and develop their potential, serve as mentors who systematically share experiences and best practices, boost team engagement and work autonomy, foster a positive and constructive feedback culture, and develop internal talent in a more structured and sustainable manner.

Ultimately, a leader's success is measured not only by their own performance achievements but also by their ability to develop the people within their team. For TPS management, coaching and mentoring represent a strategic investment to ensure organizational sustainability by developing leadership capabilities across all levels.

TPS Senior HR Manager Wahyu Eko Yulianto stated that developing coaching and mentoring competencies has become essential amidst an increasingly complex and rapidly changing business landscape.

"Corporate transformation is driven not only by technology, systems, and business processes but also by the quality of leadership at every organizational level. Through this workshop, we hope TPS leaders will be able to foster a culture of continuous learning, collaboration, and talent development, thereby making the organization more adaptive and prepared to face future challenges," said Wahyu.

From the facilitator's perspective, coaching and mentoring are leadership skills that must be practiced consistently in daily activities rather than merely understood theoretically.

The program equips participants with various methods and case studies to help them apply coaching and mentoring techniques in real-world work situations—such as managing performance, resolving operational challenges, and preparing future leaders.

For the participants, the workshop offers a fresh perspective on the role of a leader. Leadership is no longer viewed merely as issuing directives, but also as creating learning opportunities, empowering teams, and fostering the professional growth of team members.

Through the practice of coaching and mentoring, participants gain the skills to build more productive working relationships, enhance team trust, and strengthen their communication and decision-making capabilities.

The Coaching & Mentoring Workshop aligns closely with the TPS transformation agenda, which consistently drives improvements in performance, innovation, and service excellence.

Corporate transformation requires an organization that is agile, collaborative, and oriented toward continuous improvement. In this context, coaching and mentoring play a vital role in accelerating the transfer of knowledge and experience across generations of employees, enhancing talent pool readiness and succession planning, strengthening the culture of continuous improvement, fostering faster and more effective decision-making, increasing employee engagement with corporate goals, and supporting the creation of a learning organization.

With an increasing number of leaders possessing coaching and mentoring competencies, TPS aims to strengthen operational excellence while ensuring the long-term sustainability of human resource development.

As part of this program, all participants are required to fully attend the activities and compile a training report; this report will be presented during internal sharing sessions to facilitate knowledge transfer to their respective work units. Through this initiative, TPS reaffirms its commitment to fostering a work environment that supports employee growth, strengthening leadership at all levels, and cultivating a high-caliber workforce capable of supporting the company's transformation and sustainable business growth.
