SURABAYA (ISL News, June 3, 2026) – PT Terminal Petikemas Surabaya (TPS) hosted
an academic visit from students of the Business Statistics Study Program,
Faculty of Vocational Studies, Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS),
as part of a field study for the Quality Management course. The visit took
place on Wednesday (June 3) at TPS's operational facilities. The activity aimed
to provide a practical understanding of the implementation of an ISO
9001:2015-based quality management system in the port industry.
ISO (International
Organization for Standardization) is an international organization that sets
global standards to ensure that an organization's systems, products, and
services meet internationally recognized principles of quality, efficiency, and
consistency. ISO 9001:2015 is the international standard for quality management
systems, serving as a reference for ensuring structured business processes,
customer satisfaction orientation, and supporting continuous improvement in
company operations.
A total of 94 students
and three lecturers participated in the activity. During this visit, the
students had the opportunity to learn firsthand about the implementation of the
ISO 9001:2015 standard, from the organizational context, leadership, and risk
management to performance evaluation and continuous improvement in port services.
TPS has implemented an
integrated quality management system based on ISO 9001:2015, covering all core
business processes, including:
- Standing
and unloading (stevedoring),
- Receiving/delivery,
- Less
than Container Load (LCL) services, and
- Customs
and quarantine inspection facilities.
To ensure consistent
service quality, the implementation of quality standards at TPS is strengthened
by the integration of modern technology. These include the use of a Terminal Operating
System (TOS), gate automation (auto-gate system), and the digitization of
operational documents.
Performance evaluations
are also conducted periodically to encourage innovation and efficiency in
logistics services. The main focus is on optimizing loading and unloading
times, accelerating Truck Round Time (TRT), and streamlining container
inspection processes.
Through this activity,
students not only understood the theoretical concepts of ISO 9001:2015 but also
saw firsthand how a quality management system is applied in highly complex
industrial operations. This is expected to enhance students' readiness for the
world of work, particularly in the areas of quality management and business
process analysis. TPS Corporate Secretary, Erika Asih Palupi, stated that this
activity is part of TPS's commitment to supporting human resource development
and synergizing with the educational sector.
"TPS welcomes the
visit from ITS students as part of our efforts to share knowledge and
experience regarding the implementation of an ISO 9001:2015-based quality
management system. We believe that collaboration between industry and academia
is key to producing superior talent who understand best practices in the
workplace," said Erika.
Furthermore, Erika added
that TPS remains committed to implementing the principles of quality,
transparency, and continuous improvement in every aspect of the company's
operations.
