SURABAYA (ISL News) - As a concrete effort to strengthen the Occupational Safety and Health (K3) pillars, TPK Berlian held a K3 Refreshment Training program aimed at 835 Tanjung Perak Loading and Unloading Workers (TKBM).

The training, which was divided into six batches from April 30 to May 7, 2026, was specifically aimed at TKBMs to ensure that K3 standards are a top priority when carrying out container loading and unloading processes. It is hoped that this will strengthen TKBMs' understanding of work safety in high-risk operational areas.

In his remarks, the Head of the Berlian Terminal (TPK Berlian Terminal), Burhanudin, emphasized that K3 is not merely a matter of complying with administrative regulations, but rather a work culture that must be instilled in every individual. In a terminal area filled with heavy equipment and a dynamic flow of containers, there is no room for compromise, not even the slightest, on safety procedures.

According to him, consistency in prioritizing safety and being sensitive to the conditions of coworkers are key to creating a safe workplace. "Our hope is that every worker goes to work with enthusiasm and returns home healthy and safe, with nothing missing," Burhanudin emphasized.

Stay Safe

Achmad Muchtasyar, President Director of PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero), who also had the opportunity to attend the refreshment event, highlighted the humanitarian side of the company's K3 policy by calling humans an irreplaceable asset.

"The primary goal of this K3 refresher program is to ensure the safety of all workers in the port area for the sake of their beloved families waiting at home. For Pelindo, consistent K3 implementation is a non-negotiable culture. As a token of gratitude for this work, let us work together to maintain a conducive and safe work environment," said Achmad Muchtasyar.

Nine Points

This training provides an in-depth discussion of nine crucial points in the Corporate Life Saving Rules (CLSR), which serve as the standard within PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero). The material covered working in restricted areas, safety procedures for working around water, including the mandatory use of life jackets, and procedures for handling dangerous goods, which require extra care in mitigating chemical and radiation risks.

Participants were also provided with an understanding of the importance of verifying the suitability of heavy equipment through a valid operational permit, energy isolation procedures using the Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) system during equipment repairs to prevent accidental energy activation, to the use of full body harnesses for work at heights and special permits (permit to work) for tasks in confined spaces.

Another technical aspect highlighted in this training session was the danger of blind spots on heavy equipment such as reach stackers, rubber-tired gantries (RTGs), and container trucks. Through visual simulations, the TKBMs were taught that limited operator visibility is a real risk that can be fatal.

Therefore, workers are encouraged to always comply with pedestrian tracks, maintain a safe distance, and avoid using electronic devices such as cell phones or earphones that can reduce auditory alertness to unit alarms or field officer instructions.

This strategic move by TPK Berlian received full appreciation from Eko Iswahyuono, Chairman of the Tanjung Perak TKBM Cooperative, who stated that OHS commitment is the primary foundation for achieving sustainable operational performance improvements. The TKBM Cooperative is also committed to continuous internal improvements within its area of responsibility to support operational efficiency at TPK Berlian.

"We are grateful for this safety induction and blind spot refresher activity, because a shared understanding between equipment operators and field workers is key to everyone's safety," said Eko.

Through this refresher program, TPK Berlian not only transfers technical knowledge but also strengthens an OHS-based work culture. Each individual is expected to have the courage to carry out safety interventions, namely by daring to reprimand coworkers who engage in unsafe behavior and reporting unsafe environmental conditions.

With strong synergy between terminal management and all elements of the workforce, TPK Berlian is optimistic that it can continue to maintain the Zero Accident target for the sake of smooth, safe and reliable national logistics.
