SURABAYA INDONESIA (ISL News) – As a comprehensive strategy of PT Terminal Petikemas Surabaya (TPS) in managing its business sustainably, various company work programs are implemented by paying attention to various aspects, starting from the implementation of governance principles, transparency, and management of economic, social and environmental impacts which are carried out in stages and consistently.
Ultimately, all work programs, along with implementation strategies and achievements, are reported to Shareholders in the Sustainability Report.
To equip the Management team, TPS conducted training on preparing Sustainability Reports . The training, held on Monday (May 4) at Pelindo Place, Surabaya, was attended by 26 TPS employees from various work units. This activity is part of the company's efforts to ensure that sustainability principles are integrated into business processes, decision-making, and company performance reporting, all carried out and prepared in a comprehensive, transparent, and accountable manner.
As a container terminal operator, TPS continuously implements Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles through various programs. In the environmental aspect, TPS routinely preserves coastal ecosystems by preserving mangrove forests in the TPS work area of 22.7 hectares, and cultivating 10,000 mangrove seedlings that are ready for harvest every 4 to 6 months. This activity, in addition to providing the benefit of the availability of carbon sinks at the TPS, has also been proven to be able to preserve biota in the mangrove forest area at the TPS.
In line with mangrove conservation, TPS also reduces emissions through the electrification program for its main loading and unloading equipment, namely the Container Crane (CC) and Rubber Tyred Gantry (RTG). The electrification of all CC units at the TPS was completed in 2016, while the electrification of all RTG units was completed in April 2026. Other programs include the use of solar power for lighting in the office area, greening throughout the TPS terminal area, and waste management.
All sustainability initiatives are then recorded using accounting knowledge so that the benefits of their implementation can be known.
Ultimately, all work programs and initiatives are summarized and reported in the Sustainability Report, which is an important element in implementing corporate responsibility as well as a means of communication, both to Shareholders and to Stakeholders.
TPS Senior Manager of Finance and Risk Management, Jeanny Harjono, said that sustainability is not only realized through operational programs, but also through transparency and good governance.
"The Sustainability Report has a strategic role in documenting and communicating the implementation of TPS's sustainable programs as a form of corporate accountability to regulators, shareholders, business partners, customers, and the community," explained Jeanny.
In line with this, TPS also continues to promote service digitalization to improve service quality and public information transparency. Various digital innovations have been implemented, including Web Access & Clique 247, Online Container Damage Report (CDR), Automatic Damage Detection System (ADDS), and the latest Vessel Report service . This digitalization supports the principle of Public Information Transparency (KIP) and increases the efficiency and transparency of services to Service Users.
In the operational and logistics support sector, TPS provides value-added services such as Behandle Management , Fumigation Services, Salt Skin Inspection Services, and Container Inspection Services through Container Scanners , all of which support the smooth flow of goods, regulatory compliance, and the security and safety of port operations.
This Sustainability Report Preparation Training is designed to improve participants' understanding of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards Update 2021, including Universal Standards , impact-based material topic determination, and disclosure of economic, environmental, and social performance integrated with the Sustainable Development Goals ( SDGs ).
Through strengthening internal capabilities, structured sustainability data management, and transparent reporting, TPS is solidifying its steps in implementing sustainability as an integral part of its business strategy, in line with the transformation of Pelindo and its Subholding Pelindo Terminal Petikemas (SPTP) Group into leaders in the integrated maritime ecosystem and world-class terminal operators.
