SURABAYA INDONESIA (ISL News) - PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas (SPTP) together with the Surabaya City Food Security and Agriculture Service (DKPP) strengthened the supervision of the health of sacrificial animals ahead of Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijriah through technical support and operational inspections at a number of livestock sales stalls in Surabaya City.

The monitoring took place from May 18 to 26, 2026, at various sacrificial animal sales points across Surabaya. The program involved various parties, including university volunteers and academics, the Center for Veterinary Pharmacy (Pusvetma), and the East Java Provincial Animal Husbandry Office.

This collaboration is carried out as an effort to ensure that the sacrificial animals being traded are healthy, safe, and fit for consumption by the public ahead of Eid al-Adha.

PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas Corporate Secretary, Widyaswendra, said the company's involvement in this activity is part of the company's social contribution as well as an effort to educate the public about the importance of the health of sacrificial animals.

"We are motivated to educate the public that sacrificial animals require more than just meeting the legal requirements, but also ensuring they are truly healthy and fit for consumption. Healthy animals need to be properly verified through proper inspection," he said.

He added that Pelindo Terminal Petikemas wants to continue presenting programs that provide direct benefits to the community, including supporting aspects of health and food safety.

"Continuing the previous year's program, Pelindo Terminal Petikemas has also initiated a program for certified Halal Slaughterers. This year, we are strengthening our focus on monitoring the health of sacrificial animals, working with the Surabaya City DKPP and all relevant parties," he added.

On the occasion of Eid al-Adha this year, Pelindo Terminal Petikemas also distributed 150 sacrificial animals to various company work areas spread throughout Indonesia as a form of concern and social contribution to the community.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Surabaya City Food Security and Agriculture Service, Nanik Sukristina, said that supervision was carried out comprehensively in all sub-districts in Surabaya City, involving hundreds of veterinary medical personnel.

"We are conducting surveillance in 31 sub-districts, involving around 190 veterinary personnel. As of Tuesday, inspections have been conducted at 61 sacrificial animal sales stalls, and that number is expected to grow to over 100 stalls," he said.

According to him, the examination was carried out administratively as well as by examining the physical health of the animals by officers and veterinarians.

"The inspection includes checking the animal's health certificate from the area of origin, a health check by a veterinarian, and direct monitoring of the animal's condition to ensure the sacrificial animal is in good health," he explained.

In addition to monitoring at the sales outlet level, animal health monitoring is also carried out at the livestock's source. The Head of the Ministry of Agriculture's Center for Veterinary Pharmacy (Pusvetma) in Surabaya, Edy Budi Susila, confirmed that animal health monitoring is being carried out through vaccination programs and strategic infectious animal disease control.

"We ensure that the livestock we transport meet the requirements. Therefore, the livestock entering here have been vaccinated against LSD, FMD, and several other strategic diseases, ensuring their health," he concluded.
