SURABAYA (ISL News, 12/2/2026) – In an effort to strengthen the implementation of Occupational Safety and Health (K3) standards in the operational environment, PT Terminal Petikemas Surabaya (TPS) conducted a Class 3 Dangerous Goods (DG ) Leak and Fire Handling Simulation in the Container Yard (CY) area on Thursday (12/2). This simulation activity is part of the company's ongoing commitment to ensuring that all terminal processes and activities run safely, under control and in accordance with applicable K3 standards.

The simulation scenario depicts a leak in a 20 -foot Petroleum Crude Oil (UN 1267) tank container that then develops into a fire due to sparks from an external source. The handling process involves various operational units, including the Integrated Planning & Control (IPnC) Room as the emergency communication control center, the Emergency Response Management (ERM) team, the internal Fire Department team, and support from the Pelindo Tanjung Perak Fire Department. The simulation also involved a total of 57 personnel consisting of operational, security, HSSE, medical, and external support elements.

This activity also serves as a means of evaluating the effectiveness of emergency communication channels (Jarkom), which emphasizes the importance of a single point of communication , speed of information verification, and the implementation of safety procedures in accordance with applicable standards and regulations, including the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code, International Ships & Port facilities Security (ISPS) Code and International Standard Organization (ISO) 45001 concerning Occupational Safety and Health Management Systems (SMK3).

TPS Senior Vice President (SVP) of Occupational Health, Environment, and Security, I Nyoman Sudiartha, stated that this simulation is a strategic step to ensure the company's preparedness in facing potential emergencies, particularly in the handling of dangerous goods. "As a company that handles various types of cargo, including dangerous goods, TPS is always committed to improving preparedness through regular training and simulations. This activity not only tests the accuracy of responses in the field but also ensures that cross-functional coordination is effective and meets standards. Safety is always a top priority in every one of our operational processes," he said.

Nyoman also added that the simulation aligns with TPS's vision of strengthening safety culture and compliance with OHS standards. Collaboration with the Pelindo Tanjung Perak Fire Department—which is part of the Pelindo Group—is also crucial in ensuring effective incident management, both on a minor scale and in large-scale emergency scenarios.

Through this simulation activity, TPS affirms its commitment to continuously maintaining the safety and smooth operation of the container terminal, while also supporting the creation of a professional, reliable, and collaborative safety ecosystem within the Port of Tanjung Perak.
