JAKARTA INDONESIA (ISL News) - PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) Regional 2 affirmed its commitment to strengthening the role of ports in Banten Province as strategic logistics hubs that support regional economic growth, while also supporting the national logistics system.
This commitment was conveyed at the 2026 National Press Day (HPN) Seminar held at the Aston Hotel in Serang, Banten, on Saturday (February 7, 2026). The seminar was also attended by the Deputy Governor of Banten, Ahmad Dimyati Natahkusuma, Deputy 1 of the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Nazib Faisal, Director of Ports at the Ministry of Transportation, Muhammad Anto Yulianto, and Director General of Highways, Roy Rizali Anwar.
Executive Director 2 of Pelindo Regional 2, Budi Prasetio, said that nationally, Pelindo manages a port network in 32 provinces and more than 120 ports, with a significant contribution to Indonesia's logistics flow.
Throughout 2025, Pelindo recorded container flows approaching 20 million TEUs and goods flows exceeding 195 million tons, with a national container market share reaching over 90 percent.
"The Banten region plays a crucial role within the national logistics system. Its ports not only serve local needs but also support strategic industrial areas and national-scale logistics distribution," he said.
He explained that Pelindo Regional 2 manages a number of ports in Banten, such as Ciwandan Port, IKPP, and the Bojonegara area, which is the backbone of logistics activities for the industrial areas of Cilegon, Serang, and western Tangerang.
The performance of ship and freight flows in this region shows a positive growth trend in the 2023–2025 period, along with increasing user confidence and industrial activity.
In supporting the smooth running of Christmas and New Year (Nataru) transportation in 2025/2026, Ciwandan Port plays an important role as a buffer port.
Pelindo has prepared additional piers, buffer areas for two-wheeled vehicles, and logistics buffer areas for trucks to ensure the flow of passengers and goods remains under control amid the surge in traffic.
"The management of Christmas and New Year in Ciwandan demonstrates the importance of infrastructure readiness and cross-agency coordination. Ports cannot operate alone; they must be integrated with land transportation and ferry systems," said Budi.
In addition, Pelindo is also encouraging the optimization of IKPP Port as a buffer area to support Merak Port, as well as strengthening the integration of access to the ferry dock.
This step is expected to reduce congestion and improve the smooth flow of logistics and passengers in the Banten region.
Bojonegara Port
Pelindo Regional 2 also pays great attention to the re-operation of Bojonegara Port as a new engine of economic growth.
Starting in October 2025, the port will gradually resume loading and unloading operations, while preparing for medium- and long-term infrastructure development.
"We are pushing for Bojonegara to become a safe, efficient, and competitive port. Development will be carried out in stages, starting with improvements to the dock structure, road access, drainage systems, and other supporting facilities," he explained.
Through these various steps, Pelindo emphasizes that port development is not only oriented towards improving operational performance, but also towards sustainability, safety, and real contribution to regional economic growth.
"Ports must act as development enablers. They should not only be logistics hubs but also economic drivers and part of the regional development ecosystem," Budi Prasetio concluded.
