PALEMBANG (ISL News, January 28, 2026) -   IPC Container Terminal (IPC TPK) recorded positive performance in the Palembang area throughout 2025. Performance continued to grow amidst sluggish export-import conditions in South Sumatra Province. IPC TPK continues to strengthen its services despite facing global challenges in several periods.

"This positive performance reflects the strong synergy between IPC TPK and stakeholders in South Sumatra in facing global challenges," said Agustian Chandra, Manager of IPC TPK Palembang Area.

The performance of the Palembang Area IPC TPK in 2025 shows a positive upward trend compared to the previous year's realization of 6.15%. The container flow achieved by IPC TPK Palembang in 2025 reached 121,422 TEUs, this achievement is greater than the 114,383 TEUs achieved in 2024. The performance of the IPC TPK Palembang Container Terminal continues to grow amidst the economic fluctuations of South Sumatra.

This growth was driven by several factors, including improved ship connectivity and the consolidation of import-export commodities transported through the port of Palembang. This growth includes the handling of imported  factory spare parts containers  and increased rubber exports throughout the third and fourth quarters of 2025. Furthermore, imports by PT KAI contributed to a 700 TEU increase in  throughput  throughout the second half of 2025. The increase was also driven by the diversion of rubber cargo from Belawan to Palembang.

South Sumatra's foreign trade performance through November 2025 is under pressure. Exports are down 3.80%, while imports plummeted 51.64% compared to the same period the previous year. According to data from the South Sumatra Central Statistics Agency (BPS), exports reached US$5.82 million from January to November 2025, down from US$6.05 million in the same period in 2024. The decline was primarily driven by a 16.24% decline in oil and gas exports, as well as a 2.8% decline in non-oil and gas exports.

"IPC TPK continues to improve service efficiency, accelerate the handling of export-import containers, and expand sea lane connectivity to strengthen the logistics network in Sumatra," Agustian concluded.
