JAKARTA INDONESIA (ISL News) - PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) Regional 2 ensures full operational readiness of ports to face the flow of Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026. Until D-2 Christmas, port activities in the Regional 2 area showed high dynamics, both in the movement of passengers, vehicles, and logistics transportation.
Based on the operational recapitulation for the period from December 10 (H-15) to December 23, 2025 (H-2), Christmas Day, the total number of passengers boarding across all Regional 2 branches reached 32,335, while 23,354 passengers disembarked. These movements included not only individual passengers but also motorcycles, logistics trucks, and other modes of transportation supporting goods distribution.
Executive Director 2 of Pelindo Regional 2, Budi Prasetio, said that the readiness of infrastructure, personnel, and operational systems is key to maintaining the smooth flow of Christmas and New Year's Eve this year.
"Our main focus is ensuring that all passenger and logistics movements are handled safely, orderly, and smoothly. As of two days before Christmas, activity at Regional 2 ports remains under control and is proceeding according to the prepared operational scenario," Budi said in a written statement on Wednesday (December 24).
Collected data shows that the Banten branch was the point with the highest number of ship calls, with 61 calls, and a passenger count of 7,747, accompanied by significant movement of logistics vehicles and motorcycles. This high activity reflects Banten's strategic role as a ferry and distribution hub during the year-end holiday period.
Meanwhile, Tanjung Priok Port recorded 33 ship calls with quite large passenger movements, with 11,595 passengers boarding and 11,601 passengers disembarking, in line with the activity of passenger ships and vehicles supporting the homecoming and return flows.
In western Sumatra, Teluk Bayur Port served 21 ship calls, with 3,684 passengers boarding and 3,320 disembarking. Pontianak also recorded 21 ship calls, with 3,442 passengers boarding and 3,406 disembarking. All of these movements involved the distribution of vehicles and logistics between regions.
Budi added that Pelindo Regional 2 continues to rely on digital system support to reduce potential congestion, including the implementation of the Terminal Booking System (TBS) and Integrated Planning Control, as directed by the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development during a previous field visit.
"Strengthening digital systems is crucial for maintaining smooth traffic flow, especially for vehicles and logistics. By managing schedules, we can prevent congestion and ensure efficient port operations," he explained.
Pelindo Regional 2 predicts that the return flow will start to increase in early January 2026. All operational teams are on 24-hour alert, with intensive coordination with the KSOP, security forces, and BMKG to monitor weather conditions and shipping safety.
"Our commitment is, of course, to maintaining service quality until the entire Christmas and New Year (Nataru) season is complete. We continue to strengthen synergy with stakeholders to ensure safe, smooth, and sustainable public and logistics movements," Budi concluded.
In addition to passenger movements, Pelindo Regional 2 also recorded vehicle and logistics traffic dynamics during the early Christmas and New Year 2025/2026 period. This movement reflects not only public mobility but also the ongoing distribution of goods during the year-end holidays.
For additional information, the Christmas and New Year (Nataru) peak in Ciwandan, Banten, is also marked by high vehicle traffic. As of two days before Christmas, 2,917 motorcycles and 3,243 trucks had been loaded through the port.
These figures demonstrate the strategic role of Ciwandan Port and its surroundings as the main hub for passenger and logistics movement to and from Sumatra Island.
Meanwhile, Tanjung Priok Port recorded a more balanced vehicle movement pattern between incoming and outgoing traffic. During the same period, 13 motorcycles were recorded leaving and 62 entering.
For four-wheeled vehicles, 72 cars were recorded as leaving and 213 were recorded as entering. Meanwhile, 385 trucks were recorded as leaving and 327 were entering.
This activity reflects Tanjung Priok's function not only as a container port, but also as a passenger and vehicle terminal that remains operational during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
In contrast to Banten and Tanjung Priok, Teluk Bayur port in West Sumatra and Pontianak during this period did not record any loading and unloading movements of vehicles in the form of trucks, cars, or motorbikes.
Activities at both ports are dominated by ship passenger movements, in line with the character of the services and travel patterns of the people in each region.
Pelindo Regional 2 emphasized that all passenger and vehicle movements are managed through integrated operational arrangements, including the use of buffer areas, control of ship berthing schedules, and intensive coordination with the Port Authority (KSOP), the Port Authority (ASDP), and relevant stakeholders. This measure is taken to ensure the orderly, safe, and smooth flow of passengers and logistics during the Christmas and New Year period.
