 - Last Wednesday, April 17 2024, there was a fire incident on the ZANZIBAR-flagged ship MV.LAYAR ANGGUN 8 with registration number IMO.8859378 in Tanjung Berakit waters.


In its quick response, the Ministry of Transportation, cq Directorate General of Sea Transportation, through the Sea and Coast Guard Unit (KPLP), which is the Indonesian Sea and Coast Guard, immediately moved to save the ship.


KPLP Director, Jon Kenedi, revealed that initial information was received from the Singapore Coast Guard, which stated that the 12 crew members of the ship, consisting of 11 Indonesian citizens and 1 Bangladeshi citizen, left the ship and were helped by the Singapore Coast Guard. When abandoned, the ship was still with the main engine running and headed towards Tanjung when it broke up and ran aground.


"After receiving the information, the Head of the Tanjung Uban Sea and Coast Guard Base immediately mobilized a rescue team to evacuate the MV. LAYAR ANGGUN 8 and immediately carried out rescue actions from 04.30 WIB. The patrol boat deployed was the KPLP patrol boat KN. Rantos - P.210 , KN Sarotama - P.112, and coordination with KRI Lepu 861 are on standby to monitor and secure the burning ship," he said.


Rescue efforts continued until 08.00 WIB, when the rubber boats KN.Rantos - P.210 and KN.Sarotama - P.210 began the process of extinguishing the embers of the fire that were still burning on the ship using an Alcon pump.

"The courage and resilience of KPLP members as sea and coast guards succeeded in extinguishing the embers of the fire on the MV.LAYAR ANGGUN 8 ship," he said.


However, the cooling process continued until 12.30 WIB with support from the rubber boat KRI Lepu 861, which also assisted in the process.


"The Directorate General of Sea Transportation appreciates the hard work and dedication of KPLP troops as the Sea and Coast Guard in handling the fire incident on the MV.LAYAR ANGGUN 8 ship. Their presence in the field confirms our commitment to maintaining the safety and security of shipping in Indonesian waters."


Not only KPLP troops, DJPL also appreciated the cooperation of other elements involved in handling the fire, including KRI Lepu 861, TNI AL Tanjung Berakit Post, and local fishermen.


"This rescue process shows good coordination between various institutions involved in maintaining maritime security, and is clear proof that solidarity and cooperation are the keys to dealing with emergency situations at sea," he concluded.
