 Director General of Sea Transportation Capt. Antoni Arif Priadi expressed his appreciation for the contribution of the Maritime and Coast Guard Unit (KPLP) in maintaining shipping safety and security in Indonesia. He conveyed this at the commemoration of the 51st anniversary of KPLP and the 36th PLP Base at the Jakarta College of Maritime Science (STIP), Wednesday (28/2/2024).


"In order to maintain shipping safety, KPLP has carried out intensive supervision of foreign and Indonesian-flagged vessels before operating in Indonesian waters. "KPLP also establishes bilateral, regional and multilateral cooperation with a number of countries and international organizations," he said.


More Capt. Antoni said that KPLP is always committed to playing an active role in protecting the maritime environment. This has been jointly realized through routine pollution monitoring operations and joint pollution control exercises, especially handling oil spills through the implementation of the Marine Pollution Exercise (Marpolex) in collaboration with the Philippine Coast Guard and the Japan Coast Guard.


"This exercise is very important to maintain the readiness of the KPLP fleet and personnel, especially in oil spill response operations quickly, precisely and in a coordinated manner," he added.


He gave the example of KPLP's success in 2023 in evacuating and preventing pollution from the grounding of the MT Young Yong Ship in the waters of the Riau Islands and receiving appreciation from the international maritime world.


"I am sure that KPLP personnel will continue to uphold the Dharma Jala Prajatama motto in carrying out their duties and best service for the nation and state," said Antoni.


For information, in carrying out its duties in the field, KPLP is supported by 264 Technical Implementation Units and 5 (five) Sea and Coast Guard Bases with a fleet of more than 680 (Six Hundred and Eighty) patrol boats and personnel who receive regular training according to their duties and functions. each.


Furthermore, the Director General of Sea Transportation advised every KPLP employee to maintain commitment, always prioritize professionalism in carrying out their duties, and provide benefits in realizing shipping safety and security as well as protecting the maritime environment as an effort to encourage Indonesia to become the world's maritime axis.


A number of social activities were also carried out to commemorate the 51st KPLP and 36th PLP anniversaries, including social service activities, blood donations, and shipping safety outreach through the distribution of life jackets.
