PALEMBANG (ISL News) - Palembang's Boom Baru Port has become a hands-on learning space for students participating in the Occupational Safety and Health (K3) certification program from the Indonesian Ministry of Manpower. The visit provided an opportunity for participants to observe firsthand the application of K3 aspects in port operations.
The visit provided students with an overview of how safety standards are implemented in a work environment that involves a variety of operational activities, from ship servicing, loading and unloading, to mobilizing vehicles and equipment in the port area.
Through field visits, participants not only gain theoretical understanding, but can also directly observe potential work risks and the control measures implemented to maintain the safety of workers, service users, and all parties active in the port environment.
General Manager of Pelindo Regional 2 Palembang, Darmawi, said that the safety aspect is an important and inseparable part of port operational activities.
"K3 is not just about meeting standards and procedures, but rather a work culture that must be implemented in every activity. Through this visit, we hope students will gain a real-world understanding of how K3 is implemented in the port environment," said Darmawi.
He added that collaboration with the education sector is one way to introduce the characteristics and challenges of K3 in the port sector to the younger generation.
This activity also serves as a means of sharing experiences between port practitioners and K3 certification participants, particularly regarding the importance of hazard identification, risk control, use of personal protective equipment, and implementation of safety procedures in supporting safe and sustainable port operations.
Through direct learning in the field, Pelindo Regional 2 Palembang continues to support the improvement of understanding and awareness of K3, while also encouraging the creation of a generation of workers who have high competence and concern for safety in the world of work.
