MAKASSAR INDONESIA (ISL News) – PT Pelindo Jasa Maritim (PJM) continues to strengthen the competence of human resources in the field of ship pilotage services by involving 20 Level II Pilots in the Level I Pilot Certification Program in 2026 which is implemented in two batches, namely Batch III and Batch IV.
A total of 10 scouts who are members of Batch III began participating in the learning stages on Monday, September 7, 2026. The learning activities were carried out onsite at PT Pendidikan Maritim dan Logistik Indonesia (PMLI), after the participants previously took the selection exam on September 2–4, 2026.
The competency upgrade from a Level II Pilot to a Level I Pilot plays a strategic role in supporting the company's readiness to serve large vessels. Based on the provisions underlying the program's implementation, the Level I Pilot qualification upgrade is required to meet the pilotage requirements for vessels exceeding 200 meters in length. Pilots with a Level I Pilot certificate can pilot vessels with an unlimited Length Overall (LOA).
Director of Finance, Human Resources and Risk Management of PT Pelindo Jasa Maritim, Aris Subagyo, said that improving pilot competency is part of the company's efforts to prepare professional human resources with qualifications according to service needs.
"Improving pilot competency is a company investment in developing professional human resources with the qualifications needed for the service. Pilots play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and smooth operation of ships, so their competency must be continuously developed," said Aris.
According to Aris, the increase in competency is not only aimed at developing individual worker abilities, but is also expected to have a direct impact on increasing the company's capabilities in providing services to service users.
"We want competency development to have a direct impact on enhancing the company's capabilities. With the addition of Level I Guide qualified personnel, PJM is increasingly prepared to provide safe, reliable, and high-quality guide services and meet the evolving needs of our customers," he added.
The Level I Pilot Certification Program Batch III will be implemented in stages. Participants will attend training sessions from September 7 to October 5, 2026, followed by piloting practice from October 6–12, 2026. Final evaluations and competency exams will be held on October 11–12, 2026, with the entire Batch III program scheduled to conclude on October 12, 2026.
Meanwhile, 10 other pilots will participate in Batch IV with a series of programs implemented in stages from October 30 to December 12, 2026, including the selection process, learning, ship guiding practice, final evaluation, and program closure.
The competency improvement program is also in line with the direction of human capital transformation within the BUMN environment driven by Danantara Indonesia, with talent development and HR competency improvement being an important part of strengthening company performance and competitiveness.
For PJM, continuous competency development is a crucial part of ensuring human resource readiness to face business developments and the demands of the maritime industry. Improving pilot qualifications is expected to strengthen the company's capabilities in providing pilotage services that prioritize safety, reliability, and professionalism.
This effort is also part of PJM's commitment to strengthening marine service capabilities and supporting smooth national maritime connectivity by providing competent human resources capable of responding to the developing needs of the port and maritime industry.
