JAKARTA INDONESIA (ISL News) - The role of ports as key nodes in the national supply chain requires communication support that can reach a wider audience. Based on this need, PT Pelabuhan Tanjung Priok (PTP Nonpetikemas), part of the Pelindo Group, held a seminar as an initiative to strengthen public understanding of the port sector's contribution to logistics and economic growth. Carrying the theme "Ports Drive Logistics, Boost Regional Economies," the event took place at the Auditorium of the National Library of Indonesia, Jakarta, on Wednesday (July 29 2026).
The seminar served as a platform for media professionals to appreciate and provide a platform for collaboration between companies, customers, media outlets, and stakeholders. The discussion deepened with the subtheme "Ports in the Spotlight: Building Port Reputation Through Strategic Communication."
PTP Nonpetikemas President Director Indra Hidayat Sani emphasized that strengthening the port sector must go hand in hand with strengthening public communication. He believes the company's transformation will have a broader impact if the public understands the role of ports as drivers of national logistics and supporters of economic growth.
"We continue to strive to optimize excellent service and strengthen the port system to improve company performance, which we then develop into comprehensive corporate communications to expand information for port functions. Therefore, based on accurate data for the first semester of 2026, we saw an increase in performance compared to the same period the previous year," said PTP Nonpetikemas President Director Indra Hidayat Sani.
PTP Non-container's operational performance in the first half of 2026 showed a positive growth trend. As of June 2026, the company recorded a total throughput of 26,799,777 tons/m³, reaching 108% of the RKAP target, and growing 20% compared to the same period in 2025. This achievement was driven by an increase in general cargo flow of 6.64 million tons (up 10.89% year-on-year), liquid bulk 6.23 million tons (up 24.07%), and dry bulk 12.57 million tons (up 25.74%), which overall reflects increased logistics and trade activities in various regions.
"As the government promotes mineral downstreaming, food self-sufficiency, infrastructure development, and increased exports, the need for non-container terminals will increase. In line with this, we are here to boost the regional economy," said Indra.
Support for this initiative also came from port service users. Meratus Line's Head of Operations, Heri Cahyono, stated that effective communication is a crucial factor in building an integrated and competitive logistics ecosystem.
"As service users, we have felt the tangible benefits of Pelindo Group's improvements in modernizing equipment, infrastructure, and project strategies, from efficient ship waiting times and schedule reliability to contributing to regional economic growth. To support the sustainability of the port sector, Meratus upholds three pillars: People, Planet, and Growth, which require close collaboration between operators, shipping companies, and the media to introduce logistics innovations to the public," Heri said.
The discussion forum was one of the main agendas in the 2026 PortPress Journalism Competition Awarding. The session presented PTP Nonpetikemas President Director Indra Hidayat Sani, Meratus Line Head of Operations Heri Cahyono, Kompas Photographer Agus Susanto, IDN Times Editor-in-Chief Uni Lubis, Emtek Media Editor-in-Chief Forum Chair Retno Pinasti, and Bisnis Indonesia Group Strategic Affairs Director Maria Yuliana Benyamin. Participants also received training through the "AI for Media & Communication: Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)" session delivered by DailySEO.ID Founder & CEO, Ilman Akbar.
