JAKARTA (ISL News) - On July 9, 2026, Fiona Sari Utama, Corporate Secretary of PT Pelabuhan Tanjung Priok (PTP Nonpetikemas), had the opportunity to deliver a presentation on ESG and DEI at the IDEAS Conference 2026, representing PTP Nonpetikemas (Pelindo Group). Ports as Ecosystems, Not Just Infrastructure.
The Pelindo Group is present in 32 provinces, manages 122 ports through four subsidiaries, and handles nearly 20 million TEUs of containers and over 195 million tons of cargo annually. But those numbers, frankly, aren't the point.
The crux of the story is who lives within those numbers. There are industries and manufacturers that depend on the loading and unloading of our strategic commodities.
There's national food security, which relies on the smooth flow of fertilizer and wheat. There are tens of thousands of families of workers, TKBM workers, and customs officers. There are coastal residents and fishermen who live directly adjacent to our ports.
And there are governments, media, academics, who help shape the public narrative about this industry.
All parties grow because they grow together.
ESG: How We Care for the Ecosystem
If ports are ecosystems, then ESG is how we maintain them, not a compliance checklist. As Mark Carney said, "ESG is not about philanthropy; it's about risk management."
"At PTP, we have one belief: every employee is PR. Not a slogan," Fiona said.
