AMBON (ISL News) – The Ambon Container Terminal (TPK) recorded positive performance throughout the first half of 2026, with container throughput reaching 56,834 TEUs, an 8.45% increase compared to the 52,405 TEUs recorded in the same period in 2025. This achievement underscores the strategic role of the Ambon TPK in supporting smooth logistics flows and strengthening connectivity between the Maluku region and Eastern Indonesia.

As a key hub in the logistics network in eastern Indonesia, TPK Ambon continues to improve service reliability to ensure more efficient, smooth, and sustainable inter-island distribution of goods.

Ambon TPK Terminal Head, Yandi Sofyan Hadi, explained that the increase in container flow was not only driven by increased trade and logistics distribution activities, but also by the growth in transshipment container handling at the Ambon Container Terminal.

This condition shows the increasingly strategic role of TPK Ambon as a logistics hub in eastern Indonesia, which is the result of operational transformation oriented towards strengthening the terminal's function in the regional logistics system.

"The 2026 container flow target demonstrates that TPK Ambon is increasingly playing a role in maintaining smooth logistics flows in Maluku and Eastern Indonesia. Through our operational transformation program, we continue to provide more efficient, reliable, and competitive services," said Yandi.

Furthermore, Yandi emphasized the company's commitment to continue strengthening the role of TPK Ambon as a logistics supporter for eastern Indonesia.

"In the second half of 2026, we will continue various improvement programs, including strengthening service digitalization, increasing operational efficiency, and developing human resource capacity. Furthermore, we now handle the container business process end-to-end, from loading and unloading from ships to receiving and releasing goods at stripping and stuffing locations," he added.

The growth in container traffic is also supported by increased trade and distribution activities in the Maluku region, stable terminal operations, and strong synergy with shipping companies and related stakeholders.

The Chairman of the ALFI/ILFA Regional Leadership Council (DPW) of Maluku Province, HB Sirait, praised the achievements of the Ambon Port Authority (TPK) during the first semester of 2026. According to him, the growth in container traffic is the result of the company's consistency in maintaining operational performance and the readiness of loading and unloading equipment, both on the ship side and in the yard.

He also assessed that the prospects for logistics growth in Maluku will be increasingly open with the commencement of construction of the Masela Block National Strategic Project, marked by a groundbreaking by President Prabowo Subianto on July 16, 2026.

"We believe that PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas Ambon will continue to maintain consistent performance and readiness of its loading and unloading equipment, both on board and on land, so that positive growth in container traffic can be maintained," said HB Sirait.

TPK Ambon is committed to continuing its transformation program throughout 2026 by optimizing the productivity of loading and unloading services, increasing the reliability of operational equipment, and strengthening human resource competencies. These various efforts have driven improvements in terminal operational performance, as demonstrated by the increase in Box Ship Hours (BSH) from 22.96 boxes/hour in the first semester of 2025 to 30.91 boxes/hour in the first semester of 2026, a 34.63% increase. Meanwhile, berthing time was successfully reduced from 20 hours to 15 hours during the same period. This achievement also demonstrates TPK Ambon's commitment to providing increasingly effective, efficient, and customer-oriented services.

With these achievements, TPK Ambon is optimistic that it can continue to contribute to strengthening national logistics connectivity, supporting regional economic growth, and encouraging equitable development in Eastern Indonesia.
