JAKARTA INDONESIA (ISL News) - PT Pelindo Sinergi Lokaseva (SPSL) continues to strengthen its role in developing areas integrated with ports. On the northern side of Sumatra Island, SPSL is developing the Kuala Tanjung Industrial Estate (KIKT) in Batubara Regency, North Sumatra, which is directly connected to Kuala Tanjung Port.
This step is part of the company's strategy to build an integrated, efficient, and sustainable port-led industrial infrastructure ecosystem to create added value for all stakeholders.
The Kuala Tanjung Industrial Estate (KIKT) is a National Strategic Project (PSN) located in the strategic Strait of Malacca, one of the world's busiest shipping lanes. KIKT boasts several strategic advantages, including connectivity with the Medan–Kuala Tanjung Toll Road, proximity to the Sei Mangke Special Economic Zone (KEK), the aluminum processing industry, and its location within a vast palm oil plantation hinterland. This location gives KIKT significant potential as a port-based industrial area supporting the development of downstream industries and international trade.
Senior Vice President of Corporate Secretariat of PT Pelindo Sinergi Lokaseva, Dewi Fitriyani, stated that the development of KIKT is part of the company's commitment to supporting the government's strategic agenda regarding Indonesia's Economic Transformation through natural resource downstreaming, massive productivity increases and an economy integrated with global and domestic chain networks as well as robust exports.
"In line with the government's 2026 policy direction of strengthening downstream processing and competitiveness, the integration of industrial estates with ports is expected to improve supply chain efficiency, strengthen national industrial connectivity, and increase investment attractiveness in North Sumatra," Dewi said.
Port Based
KIKT's development is managed by PT Prima Pengembangan Kawasan (PPK), a subsidiary of PT Pelindo Sinergi Lokaseva. It continues to promote the development of basic infrastructure in the area as an initial step. To date, the construction of the area gate and access road have been completed, providing primary access to the industrial development area.
The development of this basic infrastructure is a crucial step in supporting the region's readiness for further, gradual development. Going forward, various other supporting infrastructure will also continue to be developed to prepare a modern, integrated, and competitive industrial area.
In addition to the physical development of the area, PT PPK is also strengthening the governance and legal certainty of the company's assets. In early 2026, PT PPK received 31 land certificates for Phase I Parts A and B, the result of legal assistance with the Batu Bara District Attorney's Office. This step is part of the company's commitment to strengthening asset security and supporting the implementation of Good Corporate Governance (GCG) through cross-agency synergy.
KIKT development efforts are also continuously strengthened through strategic coordination between Pelindo Group entities. The Kuala Tanjung Ecosystem Development Priority Program Progress Meeting, held by PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) with its subsidiaries and strategic partners in April 2026, discussed various steps to accelerate industrial estate development and strengthen connectivity at Kuala Tanjung Port as a strategic hub for international trade.
The Kuala Tanjung Industrial Estate is being developed as a port-led industrial/logistics infrastructure area directly connected to international trade routes. This integration between the area and the port is expected to support the government's agenda of strengthening the national economy.
Through the development of KIKT, PT Pelindo Sinergi Lokaseva is committed to supporting the development of integrated industrial areas that can create added value for national economic growth while strengthening Indonesia's position in regional and global trade chains.
