SURABAYA (ISL News) - To commemorate National Occupational Safety and Health Month 2026, PT Pelindo Marine Service (Pelindo Marine) held an intensive fire management training entitled "Kenjeran Wani Geni" . This activity involved residents of RW 09, Tanah Kali Kedinding Village, Kenjeran District, Surabaya City, as well as the Great Surabaya Cadres (KSH) on Wednesday (February 4, 2026).
In addition to education, Pelindo Marine also provided assistance in the form of five units of Light Fire Extinguishers (APAR) complete with storage boxes to be placed at strategic points in residential areas.
Pelindo Marine's Senior Manager of Management Systems & Information Technology, Dian Irawati, who was present to hand over the aid, explained the reason behind the Kenjeran Wani Geni activity theme. "The people of Surabaya are known for their courage and resilience, but that courage must be accompanied by preparedness in facing potential fire hazards. We must do our best to prevent fires from spreading. Prevention and early response capabilities are crucial, not only when a fire occurs, but even before it occurs," Dian Irawati emphasized.
Residents appeared enthusiastic to directly practice fire extinguishing techniques in the field using the traditional method of wet burlap sacks and a portable fire extinguisher (APAR). Firefighter Officer of Pelindo Sub-Regional Java, Mohammad Risqi Haji Ega Firnanda who was present as an instructor emphasized that in addition to mastery of the equipment, the psychological aspect plays a vital role in dealing with emergencies. "Besides mastery of the equipment, the main key in extinguishing a fire is calm, therefore direct practice like this is very important to build community preparedness mentally and technically," explained Ega on the sidelines of the simulation.
The head of neighborhood association (RW) 09 in Tanah Kali Kedinding, Yoyok Soehendro, welcomed Pelindo Marine's initiative to strengthen community preparedness for fire risks. He believes raising collective awareness is an urgent need, given the densely populated Kenjeran area. "We truly appreciate Pelindo Marine. This training is crucial, especially with the involvement of the Great Surabaya Cadres (KSH). The Kenjeran area has a high population density, so the potential for fire needs to be mitigated early through collaborations like this," he said.
This activity aligns with the overarching theme of National Occupational Safety and Health Month 2026 and is part of a synergistic effort to create a conducive port environment. Pelindo Marine believes that the security and safety of port operations are inseparable from the active role of the surrounding community. Through ongoing fire prevention collaboration, the company hopes to create a safe, conducive, and disaster-prepared environment around port operational areas.
