SURABAYA (ISL News), 5/1/2026 – PT Terminal Petikemas Surabaya (TPS) recorded a 4.03% growth in container traffic in December 2025 compared to the previous month ( month-on-month ). Container volume increased from 132 thousand Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) in November to 138 thousand TEUs in December.

The positive performance in December 2025 was driven by the contribution of international containers of 130 thousand TEUs and domestic containers of 8 thousand TEUs. For comparison, in November 2025, international container traffic reached 125 thousand TEUs, while domestic traffic was 7 thousand TEUs.

Meanwhile, based on a year-on-year comparison , international container flow in the January-December 2025 period was 1.509 million TEUs, an increase of 0.06% compared to the same period last year of 1.508 million TEUs. Overall, container flow—both domestic and international—was corrected by 0.45% compared to the same period last year, from 1.58 million TEUs to 1.57 million TEUs. The factor causing the correction in year-on-year throughput was due to an unbalance or imbalance in domestic container flow between volume and ship's calls of domestic vessels.

TPS currently manages a container terminal with a 1,000-meter international pier and a 450-meter domestic pier, equipped with 12 e-CC units to support the efficiency and reliability of loading and unloading operations.

In terms of foreign trade, export flows in December 2025 experienced month-on-month growth of 5%, from 59,000 TEUs to 62,000 TEUs. Imports also increased by 2.98%, from 66,000 TEUs to 68,000 TEUs.

The ratio of export and import container flows from January to December 2025 was 49% (741,000 TEUs) for export containers and 51% (767,000 TEUs) for import containers. Compared to the same period in 2024, the ratio of export and import container flows in 2024 remained unchanged. The 49% export share in 2024 contributed 743,000 TEUs to container flows. Meanwhile, import container flows accounted for 51% of the total, or 765,000 TEUs, from January to December.

The number of ship visits to the TPS during 2025 also recorded a 5.43% increase, from 1,215 visits last year to 1,281 visits this year.

"The growth in container traffic demonstrates the TPS's continued operational performance amidst the dynamics of international logistics flows," said Erika Asih Palupi.

He explained that this increase was supported by the reliability of loading and unloading services and the smoothness of service processes at the terminal.

Meanwhile, from a service user perspective, Boy George Rahman, Deputy Chairman of the Regional Executive Board (DPD) of the Indonesian Export Companies Association (GPEI) for East Java, also expressed his appreciation for the quality of services provided by TPS. He stated that the various improvements made by TPS have had a positive impact on the smooth logistics activities of businesses, particularly exporters.

"As TPS users, we greatly appreciate the services provided by TPS, particularly the export container receiving service. The Truck Round Time (TRT) is around 30 minutes, improving efficiency in delivering export containers to the port. We hope that TPS's services can continue to be improved for all users in the future," said Boy.

In terms of productivity, TPS recorded an average loading and unloading performance of 52 boxes/ship/hour during 2025, exceeding the minimum standard set by the Ministry of Transportation through the Tanjung Perak Main KSOP, which is 48 boxes/ship/hour. Furthermore, TPS successfully maintained its dominant position in the international container market with a market share of 83% at Tanjung Perak Port.
