PALEMBANG (ISL News) – The growth in container terminal operational performance in South Sumatra Province was recorded to have increased in January - September 2025. The IPC TPK Palembang Area recorded an increase of 5.65% compared to the same period in 2024. The operational performance of the IPC TPK Palembang Area in January - September 2025 reached 89,655 TEUs and the previous period was 84,862 TEUs.
"The transformation we're undertaking at the terminal isn't just about improving operational performance, but also about how those changes add value to logistics efficiency, strengthen export competitiveness, and drive sustainable regional economic growth," said Agustian Chandra, Area Manager of IPC TPK Palembang.
The commodities that dominated operational performance growth in September 2025 compared to September 2024 included wood products (25.1% growth), rubber (6.6% growth), and coconut (1.1% growth). Despite rising rubber prices , demand for these commodities continued to rise, boosting export production. The shift in rubber cargo from Belawan to Palembang also contributed to the increase.
This positive achievement was achieved through appropriate ship berthing schedule planning, human resource management, and ship services carried out in accordance with the ship's plan. Furthermore, the Palembang Area IPC TPK has also maintained good coordination between management and stakeholders in the Palembang region, resulting in optimal performance.
According to the Statistics Indonesia (BPS) of South Sumatra Province, South Sumatra's trade balance recorded a surplus of USD 3,550.79 million for the January-August 2025 period. Exports reached USD 4,251.69 million, while imports reached USD 700.90 million.
"The next step is to strengthen collaboration with all stakeholders to make the Palembang terminal even more competitive and capable of becoming a key node in the national and regional supply chain," Agustian concluded.
