Deputy Minister of Perhubungan Visits Makassar New Port Or MNP, Encourages Development of Eastern Indonesia Region

MAKASSAR (ISL News) - In an effort to strengthen national maritime connectivity and encourage the development of strategic ports in Eastern Indonesia, the Deputy Minister of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia who also serves as Deputy President Commissioner of PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) or Pelindo, Suntana, made a working visit to the New Makassar Container Terminal (TPK) or also known as Makassar New Port (M
NP) on Friday, April 25, 2025.


During the visit, the Deputy Minister of Transportation emphasized the importance of the existence of Makassar New Port as a strategic logistics hub that will accelerate the flow of goods distribution, reduce national logistics costs, and encourage economic growth, especially in the Eastern Indonesia Region (KTI).


Makassar New Port according to Suntana, is an integral part of Indonesia's grand vision to become the world's maritime axis. "With international standard facilities and modern operational systems implemented in MNP, we are optimistic that we can increase the competitiveness of national logistics," he said.


He also emphasized that synergy between stakeholders, including local governments, the private sector, and state-owned enterprises, is the key to the success of optimizing port functions.


Meanwhile, Executive Director 4 Pelindo Regional 4, Abdul Azis expressed his appreciation for the visit and attention given to Pelindo. He hopes that the direction from the Deputy Minister of Transportation can be a positive energy to continue improving services, strengthening collaboration, and encouraging Makassar New Port to become a major logistics hub in the Southeast Asia Region.


On that occasion, Abdul Azis explained directly the latest developments of Makassar New Port which has entered the full operational stage for a number of its main facilities.


"This visit is a form of synergy between regulators and operators. Pelindo is committed to continuing to improve port services, strengthen infrastructure, and make Makassar New Port a major logistics hub in Eastern Indonesia," said Abdul Azis.


The visit was an important momentum to emphasize the role of Makassar New Port in realizing strong national connectivity, supporting equitable development, and improving community welfare through the logistics and maritime transportation sectors.


This visit is also an important part of a series of monitoring of national strategic projects (PSN) in the maritime transportation sector, as well as a form of government commitment in accelerating the realization of international standard port infrastructure development in Indonesia. As well as ensuring the readiness and contribution of port infrastructure to the smooth running of national logistics, especially in the Eastern Region of Indonesia.


As a PSN and one of the largest ports in eastern Indonesia, Makassar New Port plays a vital role in supporting maritime connectivity and regional economic growth.


The visit of the Deputy Minister of Transportation reaffirmed Pelindo's role as the vanguard in the transformation of the national port sector, as well as the government's commitment to supporting the development of world-class ports in various regions of Indonesia.
