SURABAYA INDONESIA (ISL News) - PT Terminal Petikemas Surabaya (TPS) closed 2024 by making history. For the first time since the company was founded in 1999, container throughput at TPS reached almost 1.6 million TEUs, which was 1,584,774 TEUs.
Container flow in 2024 increased by 9.3% compared to 2023 (1,449,641 TEUs). This increase was driven by the contribution of international containers, which in 2023 were recorded at 1,375,927 TEUs and increased to 1,508,743 TEUs in 2024, an increase of 9.65%. Meanwhile, domestic container flow increased by 3.14%, from 73,713 TEUs in 2023 to 76,031 TEUs in 2024.
From the international container flow, the export container flow increased by 9.6% from 678,350 TEUs in 2023, increasing to 743,440 TEUs in 2024. Meanwhile, the import container flow also increased by 9.7% from 697,578 TEUs in 2023 to 765,303 TEUs in 2024. The comparison of export and import container flows in 2024 did not change when compared to 2023, namely 49% for export containers and 51% for import containers.
Based on a month-on-month comparison, container flow in December 2024 increased by 16.7% (147,823 TEUs) compared to November 2024 (126,716 TEUs). The increase in December 2024 was triggered by the contribution of international containers of 141,540 TEUs and domestic containers of 6,283 TEUs. In November 2024, the contribution of international containers was recorded at 121,705 TEUs and the contribution of domestic containers was 5,011 TEUs.
TPS President Director, Wahyu Widodo revealed, the throughput achievement that almost touched 1.6 million TEUs, TPS not only shows its resilience in managing the trust of Customers and Shareholders in managing container flows, but also reflects the support of harmonious cooperation with all parties, including Stakeholders. In addition, through the achievements in 2024, TPS strengthens its achievements in terms of operational efficiency. This is proven by the achievement of loading and unloading which exceeds the target set by the Ministry of Transportation.
"TPS' success in achieving a throughput of almost 1.6 million TEUs in 2024 is the result of hard work from the entire team, as well as support from various parties. We are committed to continuously improving performance by prioritizing occupational health and safety, efficiency and customer satisfaction. TPS is increasingly ready to support the national economy through better management of the maritime and logistics industry," he said.
In terms of loading and unloading performance, TPS also recorded a significant increase, with an achievement of 53 boxes/ship/hour, exceeding the loading and unloading performance set by the Ministry of Transportation through the Tanjung Perak Main Port Authority Office in Surabaya (48 boxes/ship/hour). With the throughput achievement above, TPS continues to lead the market share acquisition with a percentage of 83% at Tanjung Perak Port.
