BENGKULU (ISL News) – The trial of the Pulai Baai Port Bengkulu shipping lane on Monday morning, July 7, 2025, was successfully carried out by Pelindo. The KMP Tello ferry, which is a means of transportation for the people of Enggano Island to and from Bengkulu City, successfully entered the dock for loading and unloading activities for goods and people at around 02:30 WIB.
"Alhamdulillah, the channel blocking was opened at 21.00 last night (6/7/2025) and a trial was immediately carried out to enter and exit the channel with the Bunga Raflesia tug boat safely. Furthermore, the first ship entered at around 02.30 this morning, namely the KMP Pulo Tello passenger ship bound for Enggano Island," said S. Joko, General Manager of Pelindo Regional 2 Bengkulu.
Pelindo is always committed to accelerating the dredging of Pulau Baai Port in Bengkulu as an effort to maintain the national logistics chain as assigned by the Government which is fully supported by the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation. The success of this trial is a form of real collaboration between the Central Government, Regional Government, Harbor Master's Office and Pulau Baai Port Authority, Pelindo and various related agencies in Bengkulu.
"We hope that port activities can recover soon and have a positive impact on the regional economy," said Christanto Martubongs, S.Sit., MM, Head of KSOP Class III Pulau Baai Bengkulu.
Christanto added that there are several things that need to be done, namely continued dredging activities to increase the width of the entrance and exit channels; determination of SOP for the channel; regulation of the length, draft and width of ships that will enter and exit the channel; and the obligation to use pilots and tugs.
"We are grateful and continue to ask for support from various parties so that the work process runs smoothly so that in the near future the shipping route can return to normal," concluded Joko.
