Pelindo TPK: Five Years After the Pelindo Merger, Standardization Is the Key to Efficiency

SURABAYA (ISL News) – Five years after the merger of PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero), or Pelindo, the transformation of container terminal management continues to focus on service standardization, increased efficiency, and enhanced capacity and quality. PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas stated that this transformation has boosted productivity while reducing the dwell time of ships and cargo at the port.

Widyaswendra, Corporate Secretary of PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas (Pelindo TPK), said the transformation since the merger in 2021 has boosted terminal productivity by more than 70 percent.

"Thank God, productivity has increased by more than 70 percent. With increased productivity, customers receive better value. Port stays have also been significantly reduced, making them more efficient," said Widyaswendra when contacted on Wednesday (September 30, 2026).

According to him, the transformation was carried out through standardization, systematization, and improving human resource competency. Of the 32 terminals under management, almost all have begun to show improvement.

"Because the merger took place in 2021, competency and knowledge improvements were automatically standardized. Of the 32 terminals, almost all of the improvements are already visible," he said.

The transformation also includes equipment optimization. Mergers allow equipment from terminals with sufficient equipment to be transferred to other terminals with greater need.

"Several terminals previously had equipment issues. With the merger, we're modernizing some terminals. Existing equipment can be provided to terminals that need it," he explained.

This measure also impacted port stays and cargo stays. "The impact is that port stays and cargo stays have improved," he said.

Increased productivity also opens up opportunities for collaboration and the development of new routes.

"From there, we see many opportunities, from business development through inter-corporate collaboration to the opening of new routes or services. Many new routes are being acquired because the productivity of each terminal is already high," said Wendra.

Wendra said the transformation is aimed at strengthening the maritime ecosystem while supporting national logistics cost efficiency.

"Ultimately, when productivity and operational performance increase, it is hoped that this will also impact ship operating costs. Our focus is on how the maritime ecosystem can contribute to lower logistics costs and improve connectivity," he said.
